1856 Braided Hair Cent Slanted 5
About This Coin
The 1856 Braided Hair cent captures the closing chapter of America's original copper denomination, struck just a year before the Mint abandoned the heavy format for the smaller Flying Eagle cent. Christian Gobrecht’s classic design is presented here in the distinctive Slanted 5 variety, an essential inclusion for collectors studying the late die variations of the series.
Because large cents saw relentless day-to-day use, uncirculated survivors retaining mint color are genuinely difficult to locate. Graded MS-65 Red and Brown by PCGS and endorsed with a green CAC sticker, this piece offers the strike definition and surface integrity expected of a Gem that escaped nineteenth-century commerce.
It is a remarkably well-preserved representative from the twilight of the large cent era, suited for an advanced type set or a refined cabinet of early American copper.
