1827 Coronet Head Cent
About This Coin
Robert Scot’s Coronet design served as the backbone of early American commerce, carrying the large cent from the post-War of 1812 era into the Jacksonian period. Struck on heavy copper planchets, these workhorse issues were intended for daily transactions and almost invariably circulated until worn smooth.
Finding an 1827 cent preserved near the threshold of Mint State is an uncommon occurrence. The vast majority of survivors endured decades of pocket friction and environmental exposure, making an AU58 piece with CAC approval a substantial prize. It offers the full design definition of an uncirculated coin with only the barest trace of handling on the high points.
A dignified, honest representative of middle-period copper, it stands as a compelling anchor for a dedicated date run or classic type set.
