1883 Liberty Seated Dime (Proof)
About This Coin
Christian Gobrecht’s Liberty Seated motif had anchored American silver coinage for nearly half a century by 1883. During this era, the Philadelphia Mint struck proof coinage in limited quantities expressly for the nation’s burgeoning community of cabinet collectors, showcasing the absolute peak of contemporary die preparation.
While these collector strikes were set aside from the outset, many were compromised across the decades through improper storage, cleaning, or casual handling. Specimens preserved at the PR66+ tier represent a rare survival of untroubled quality, and the CAC endorsement provides independent verification of its premium standing within the grade.
A dignified, high-end example from the twilight of the Seated Liberty era, this piece is an effortless fit for an advanced type set or a dedicated nineteenth-century proof cabinet.
